To the editor:
I am concerned about the new plan from the B.C. Government for seniors’ property tax deferment plan.
You need to apply, fill out forms etc. If you’re accepted it’s for one year and the government puts a lien on your house.
On the CTV News, it was said that you could defer for more than one year before you pay off the tax you owe, sell the house but no mention of the lien.
You can’t sell a house with a lien on. I think it’s deceiving. The government can take your house if you don’t pay the taxes. I just thought that maybe somebody should point it out. It’s not as good as it’s supposed to be.
