Taxpayers shouldn’t cover legal costs

To the Editor,

Re: Transparency lacking in council’s conflict escapade, Letters, Jan. 25.

Anyone on city council should know what a conflict of interest is. If they don’t, they don’t deserve to be on council.

Canadian taxpayers are taxed to death by every level of government. Council should be thinking of ways to lower taxes, not raise them every year.

A lot of people are struggling to live on one job, yet Coun. Bill Bestwick has two jobs and still approached council to cover his legal bill.

I’ve voted for Bestwick before, but will never vote for him again.

Anyone who voted for this payment should be turfed out of office.
