For some time now, my dear wife has been after me to write a letter of thanks to several anonymous Vernonites who, over the past months, have come to our aid when we were in a couple of very precarious positions.
The first time was when I was involved in a pedestrian accident and was laying on the cold roadway bleeding from a couple of head wounds. As you well know, the first thing a wounded animal wants to do is get up and run/escape the trauma.
However, a couple of women helped to calm me and keep me steady. Two women gently held me down and kept repeating to me that I must lay still until the ambulance arrived.
Someone put something under my head, and another person covered me with a purple, fuzzy blanket which I still have, and will gladly return if I could figure out a way to do so.
A man used his first aid kit to stem the flow of blood from my minor head wounds, as well several cars stopped and asked if they could be of help.
Needles to say, I am now on the road to recovery.
Recently, I was travelling towards Kin Beach, along 25 Avenue, when my car suddenly ran out of power. I managed to steer the car into the curb, but I did not quite move it safely past the intersection.
As I was still recovering from the previous accident, I was unable to push the car further along the road. Several people asked if they could help, but I thought that the car was all right where it was, and anyway, the tow truck was on its way.
Nevertheless, a young couple with more sense than me stopped and pushed my car into a driveway where it was out of the traffic. They also gave my wife a bottle of water, and we were told to keep well-hydrated.
I would also like to thank the man on the maroon-coloured Triumph motorcycle who stopped to pass the time of day, I rode a similar bike in my youth. And thank you Mother Nature for the beautiful spring day and the awesome display of a pair of hawks circling above.
I would like to thank these people for their acts of kindness, and to all of those people who do random acts of kindness for me every day just by holding a door open for me, or being patient with me as I am very slow in the checkout line.
Thank you my fellow Vernonites.
