I am happy to report, due to the generousity of our community, we raised over $4,000 for the children of Haiti at the Beer and Burger event that was held at Eaglecrest Golf Club on Oct. 18.
This money was put towards building materials when Craig, my son, and 11 other contractors returned to Haiti on Oct. 31. Their goal on this third trip is to install a floor in the church they built previously and construct two playgrounds; one at the orphanage and one in the mountains for the mountain children.
Many individuals either donated money or items for the silent auction others gave generously of their time and I am truly grateful to each of them but I will not name them for reasons of privacy.
I was also gratified by the support shown by the following businesses: Elaine Defoye from Belly Laughs, Rosalie Sullivan at Eagle Mini Storage, White Elephant Restaurant, Wes Bennett/Royal LePage Realty, Windsor Plywood, Fast Time Grand Prix, Urban Hair Studio, The British Bobby Restaurant, Tina’s Hair Studio, Looking Good Salon, Elements Gallery, Lesley’s Esthetics, Gordon Lafleur Photography, Natural Synergy Day Spa, Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Spa Resort, Beth Alden at Kick Start Fitness, Red Door Treasures, Trees Restaurant & Bakery, Green Ridge Farm, Carmen’s Beauty Salon, Soccer City, and Younique by Carolyn.
I would like to thank Tim at Cranky Dog Music Store for helping to sell tickets free of charge.
A giant thank-you to Eaglecrest Golf Club for treating us so well and providing a great meal — the beer was good, too.
My sincere thanks goes out to all who helped me in this endeavor. When we listen to the news and see how the world is hurting it is satisfying to know that the folks of Parksville and area have helped a little to make a difference. The children of Haiti say “thank-you.”
