Donald Trump reminds me a bit of Junior. Now before I say anything else, know that I don’t believe Trump was the best candidate. But I also don’t think Trump being elected as president has to be a bad thing.
Pit bulls have a notoriously bad reputation like Trump. And they have earned that reputation just like Trump has. I was aware of the realities that come with owning a pit bull well before we got one. You have to treat an aggressive and potentially deadly dog differently.
When we would walk Junior, we kept him on a short leash. When I’d take him hiking, I would walk far off the side of the trail when I saw others coming and do what I could to keep him calm and in control. When he’d get aggressive, growl and lunge at the people walking past, I’d spray water in his face to get him to stop and make him realize he was being inappropriate. Eventually his temperament changed and he became a lot more friendly. We still kept him on a short leash though and never let him run free.
Aggressive dogs can have a purpose though. You wouldn’t get a beagle to guard a junk yard. Junk yard dogs are mean and would eat children if they had their way. Fortunately for us all, junk yard dogs do not roam free. How does this apply to Trump?
Maybe Trump will be able to clean up the junk yard and “drain the swamp” as he said he would. Trump is a bad dog and we should put him to work against the corruption in the government. But he also needs to be kept on a short leash and fenced in so he can’t claim innocent victims. Treat him with respect and with a firm hand, just like you would with an aggressive dog.
My suggestion: give all of the members of the other branches of government water guns to spray Trump in the face when he acts up. It’s never too late to teach an old dog a new trick.
