The key is balance

Here is the question I have, does it really work? Food today is a difficult subject.

Even if you are not a calorie counter you know what food is healthy and what is not good for the body.

You have no choice because we are beaten down online, in magazines, on television and yes even in the restaurants with calorie counts  and fat content numbers.

Most people do not have to be told that eating any fast food every day may not be the best thing for you to do but then again over consumption of any food while not eating different items is not any better for you.

I personally know I need to eat healthier and it is something I am trying to work on in my life but if once a month I get a craving for a burger it is not going to be the end of the world.

Posting the calories on the sign may make me read them just to see what I am eating from this perspective but I doubt it will stop me from placing my order.

We should not be trying to slam the fast food industry because part of the fun of eating out is the theory of taking a break.

High end restaurants that serve sit down meals which take longer times to prepare also have the potential of having high calorie and fat content.

Here is the catch though, these places just like the fast food restaurants have heathier items on the menu. You could have a salad at the fast food places instead of a burger.

Your kids could have apples as part of their snack with juice rather than soft drink and fries.

Now take a moment and think how many times you have done this.

I know for myself I doubt I ever have ordered a salad. It isn’t that you should not ever eat at these or any other restaurants.

Boycotting on the idea of calories seems silly to me. All it takes is a little self control and realization that balance is a key.

When I first moved to Golden I know I was spending too much time in restaurants because I was getting settled in.

Now I am getting  a little more balance back in my life. I am trying to eat healthier items both at home and when I go out.

Lets face facts, sometimes you just don’t want to cook and with so many tasty choices out there it is ok to enjoy life a little. I remember once eating four big burgers in a sitting while in university because they were on sale. Should you do that absolutely not. But I doubt I would have felt any better if I sat down and ate a bag of apples. Either way it is too much at one time. People do not need to see the numbers they just need to eat more sensible amounts of the food put in front of them. Everyone is different and has a different weakness for certain food. Whatever you eat enjoy and don’t single out one group over another based on reputations. Just find a balance and stay healthy.
