Canadians know how ruthless their Prime Minister Stephen Harper can be in protecting his turf, and for using his Conservative Party’s substantial war chest to shoot down political opponents with pre-emptive strikes.
Just ask Liberal Party Leaders Stephane Dion, Michael Ignatieff and now Justin Trudeau, all of whom have felt the withering wrath of negative advertisements being relentlessly fired in their direction, long in advance of an election campaign.
Along with the prime minister’s penchant for early attacks on his competition, he also has a weakness for singing Beatles songs, including quite tone-deaf renditions of Hey Jude, but it looks as if things may have gone a step farther this time.
Just Google “Polish Prime Minister Sings Hey Jude” to access a short video of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk sitting at his desk warbling the Beatles classic as part of a party political broadcast; his exuberant rendition has gone viral.
Simultaneously, Harper sent six CF-18 fighter jets to Poland under the pretext of joining a NATO force supporting the Ukraine in their ongoing crisis. However, Beatles aficionados remember these words from Hey Jude: “For well you know that it’s a fool who plays it cool, by making his world a little colder,” and believe they know the real reason for the Canadian fighter jet deployment.
