Thefts mar charity event

My work is done for now. I hope that my words will allow the glitches to be remedied.

As I write this, I acknowledge that I am almost finished my work for the 44th Annual Big Game Banquet and Dance, hosted by the Salmon Arm Fish & Game Club.

It was another successful, sold-out event with fabulous door prizes, bucket draws, a ladies diamond ring draw, rifles, shotguns and silent auction items. The food, while mostly game, was provided by members of the club and community, and was then cooked by our caterer into culinary masterpieces. Thanks to the businesses and volunteers that made this event happen; they deserve a standing ovation for all their dedication and hard work that went into an event of this calibre.

But, it is with sadness that I write this note to the paper. Events as large as this are bound to have issues, and our event did suffer a couple glitches.  One of our silent auction items, specifically, an archery tree stand, and the paperwork from that auction went missing. We would love to recover the paperwork and hope that if you are reading this article, you come forward with your payment. I am sure that this was simply an oversight on your part. The evening was busy and oversights do happen. As everyone is aware, the funds from this event are used to benefit the club, its members and the community.

However, to the person or persons responsible for taking the barbecues from the caterer, what can I say or think?

Did you think they were free for the taking?  Did your parents not teach you right from wrong?

Did you feel good about stealing from a small business?

Those barbecues allow Susan to carry on her business, in a time when the economy is hurting all the good people of this town. It is a shame that a small business that we hired has to suffer from someone else’s misguided mischief. I have to hope that you will do the honourable thing and return the barbecues, no questions asked.

My work is done for now. I hope that my words will allow the glitches to be remedied.

Thank you Salmon Arm for the support given to the Salmon Arm Fish & Game Club. See you next year.
