Time to take pride in our flags

Editor, The News:

I have heard people question how seriously Canadians take our national pride.

I have heard people talk negatively of different groups and ages of people not properly respecting flag and country.

I have heard people laugh at American laws that require the flag to be treated with respect and placed on the highest pole above others.

If it is damaged or touches the ground, there are specified methods of proper disposal.

Some people will drone on about submarines and aircraft.

Then outside the Arthur Peake Adult Learning Centre in Maple Ridge, we have flags that are so bleached, tattered – well, the Canadian flag seems to be fully one third missing.

How does this set an example for anyone?

Maybe we should start smaller?

Let’s replace the flags and learn how to treat them properly.
