Touched by kindness

So to that gentleman, I say ‘Thank you’ from the bottom of my heart.

On December 5th, my two-month-old son and I were waiting for our number to be called at the Mary Street LifeLabs.  After a long morning of appointments, he was starting to squirm a little in his stroller.  I took him out and placed him on me so we could cuddle until our number was called.  After being called and checked in, I noticed a gentlemen waiting patiently near by.  He approached me and said “you’re doing a great job” and motioned towards my son. I was stunned and wondered what he meant.

Without me saying anything, he then said “I watched you in the waiting room and saw how attentive you were and how he just melted right into you when you picked him up. You can tell you have a special bond and I wanted you to know that you’re doing a great job with him.”  My eyes welled up and I said  “thank you” but he was gone before I could say anything more.

As such, I am hoping he is reading this so that he knows how much his actions meant to me.

As a first-time Mom, I’m never sure I’m doing the right thing at the right time but I certainly do my absolute best all the time.  To have someone take the time to not only notice others but to provide encouragement when it was clearly needed after a long day is something that is very rare these days.

So to that gentleman, I say ‘Thank you’ from the bottom of my heart.  I also want to promise him I will pay it forward and I can only hope my actions will have half the impact on someone else that his did on me.
