Remember when the Harper government (not the Canadian government) was elected? Mr. Harper said this government was going to be transparent and accountable.
Hmmm, let’s think about this. This came from the same person who stood up in the House of Commons when the Senate scandal first started and told Canadians that, “I have personally reviewed Ms. Wallin’s expenses and they are in line with the rest of the senators.”
Then, when he realized that this scandal wasn’t going away, he does a 180 and wants her and the other two (Brazeau and Duffy) suspended from the Senate without even giving them the opportunity to plead their cases.
What about the presumption of innocence? Apparently there is no such thing from the Harper government. Mr. Harper says he didn’t know about the $90,000 cheque that was given to Mr. Duffy.
Mr. Harper also says he believes that this kind of thing would not be allowed to happen in private business. I believe that if this kind of thing happened in private business, the business manager (in this case, the prime minister) would probably be fired. Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt. If he didn’t know this was happening in his office, he should have.
If he did know it was happening, he should be accountable and stop misleading Canadians.
