Trustees should apologize for social media comments

To the Editor,

Re: Work stoppage could delay school opening, Dec. 22.

I attended the board of education meeting on Dec. 17. I submitted questions which chairman Steve Rae refused to read. The questions were regarding tweets he and trustee Scott Kimler had posted on the Save Cedar Schools website.

I was pleased to hear the chairman state that one of the first priorities of the new board was to re-establish relationships with various stakeholders. In the spirit of co-operation, relationship building, accountability and putting the trust back into trustee, will you apologize to the superintendent and secretary-treasurer for your tweets in February and apologize to the students and parents at John Barsby Secondary School for the various negative comments you made?

Will trustee Kimler apologize to staff for a comment he tweeted in May?

I felt very disrespected by the chairman’s outright refusal to read legitimate albeit controversial questions and unfortunately responded in a disrespectful manner myself. For that I apologize to the board, staff and audience members.
