Re: Voters Make May’s Day (PNR May 4)
Speaking from a position of never having gained the support of more than a minority of his constituents, and having been solidly rejected in this election, Mr. Lunn’s mollifying concession shows that he still doesn’t get it.
How he can he construe a two per cent change in the popular vote, from 37.6 per cent to 39.6 per cent, as handing his leader a “very, very strong mandate to govern,” when it is nothing more than an artifact of our un-representative and un-democratic “first-past-the-post” system.
Mr. Lunn’s commitment to electoral reform during the candidate’s debates was mere lip service.
We now have a false majority of a regime charged with contempt of parliament. There is a crying need for electoral reform.
