It has been a couple of busy weeks. October began with the Speech from the Throne delivered by Her Honour, Lieutenant Governor Judith Guichon.
The speech outlined our government’s plan to bring forward a comprehensive legislative framework for LNG in B.C., but more importantly that LNG development benefits all British Columbians, ensures First Nations participation and maintains our world-leading environmental record.
LNG provides an incredible opportunity to British Columbia for economic growth and new opportunities for young people. Our government invested to create new spaces in critical trades and Aboriginal learning at NVIT and TRU to ensure those who are interested in entering the trades will have the seat to pursue their passion.
My colleague, Mike Bernier MLA for Peace River South visited us on Oct. 16 to inform business leaders in Ashcroft and Merritt of the benefits of registering their business in the LNG-Buy BC tool. This program allows businesses to take advantage of contract and procurement opportunities in the LNG value chain.
Our government is also proud to celebrate B.C. small businesses this month recognizing their contribution to our economy and the entrepreneurs that invest their time and energy building our communities. Half of all British Columbians work in a small business and this sector contributes to over a third of our provincial GDP. So whenever possible consider stopping by your favourite shop and support our neighbours and friends.
Finally, now that the municipal election campaign period is underway I would like to give my best wishes to all of those who are standing to represent our communities and thank those who have served the past three years. It is important that we all exercise our democratic rights by casting our vote, but consider going to forums and meet your candidates to get informed of the issues that concern you and your family.
