Vote has an up side

At least it will divert attention from the Windsor wedding

On the night before the Harper government was defeated by a no-confidence vote for contempt of parliament, Rex Murphy appeared on CBC’s The National

His commentary opened with a statement that an election is “unwanted, unwarranted and unwelcome.”

That may well be true for the great unwashed and unwilling electorate, but is surely  not true for all those in Mr. Murphy’s chosen vocation. The press pundits, prognosticators, and predicting prophets of all party hues will fill myriad pages, airwaves, computer and television screens for the next five weeks before the grand event, and for several weeks afterwards.

If there is something good for the great unwashed and unwilling electorate to look forward to, it is that all the over-reporting on this unwanted, unwarranted and unwelcome exercise in democracy may just take some of the emphasis away from another grand event planned for London on April 29.

At that very time the press pundits, prognosticators, and predicting prophets will be counting down the hours to voting day, so perhaps we will be spared the inevitable over-reporting of the latest nuptials of another scion of the Windsor Dynasty.
