Voters need clear facts about the HST

Our MLA John Rustad’s full page advertisement in the June 29 Omineca Express might lead readers to believe the HST will be reduced to 10 per cent after a “no” decision to extinguishing the HST is made by B.C. voters in the coming referendum. Of course, this is not necessarily true.

Dear Editor:

Our MLA John Rustad’s full page advertisement in the June 29 Omineca Express might lead readers to believe the HST will be reduced to 10 per cent after a “no” decision to extinguishing the HST is made by B.C. voters in the coming referendum. Of course, this is not necessarily true.

As I understand it, if the “no” side wins, if the B.C. Liberal Party is re-elected government in the next election and if the new government follows through with its commitment, then maybe the HST will be reduced to 10 per cent.

But not until the year 2014.

Whether we intend to vote “yes” or “no” to extinguishing the HST, we deserve to be told the clear, complete and accurate facts by our elected MLA.
