As a taxpayer and a voter I would like to know how much real money does the City of Abbotsford have in the bank for project YMCA, if any?
By this I mean actual money and not future taxpayer dollars.
I ask this because recent newspaper articles indicate that currently most Canadian municipalities are spending far beyond the resources available to them.
In light of this, and our city’s current debt, where is this play money coming from? Taxpayers and businesses are the first choice, as Abbotsford city council is not allowed to actually print its own money. It appears instead to have chosen debt as a form of currency.
The residents of this city are still feeling the impact of the last idea to come down the pipeline by this current series of musical chairs mayors, and simply are not inspired by the ideas behind the YMCA package deal and what it involves.
Surely, there has to be a better way to put together a deal without giving away the farm. Perhaps we should wait until time is on our side and there’s money in our pockets.
