Walking a dog too costly

Resident can't afford the criminal record check required by SPCA to walk a dog

On Aug. 21, I contacted the Penticton SPCA and volunteered to walk a dog two or three times a week. The lady on the phone said they would like to have me take a dog for a walk, but I would have to have a criminal record check done, at my expense.

I agreed to have a check done, but I will not pay the $50 as I am retired on a fixed income. In the end, both the dogs and I miss out on a good thing.

I have bought three dogs over the past 25 years from the SPCA. I now live in an apartment which does not allow pets. I walk my son’s dog the odd weekend in Summerland and would love to do it in Penticton a few times a week.
