The indigenous people who were the original stewards of this Island killed animals for survival.
Their practice was to use as much of the animal as possible for food, clothing, weapons to hunt with, tools to help slaughter and clean their kill.
The meat from the goose cull I’m quite sure would be suitable for feeding the abundance of rescue birds and other residents of the North Island Wildlife Recovery Centre if not for human consumption.
There must be a very large amount of goose down that the Ladies Auxiliary or someone like them could produce down filled pillows and comforters from, which could be sold with proceeds going to the SPCA being that birds provided the down.
Hopefully something similar is what happened.
I know I would feel better knowing something good came out of this new encroachment on nature.
