The question of the week in The NEWS re: taking measures to reduce your water consumption, has prompted me to write this letter.
We moved to B.C. from Saskatchewan last summer. We have experienced many differences between the two provinces, one being how water consumption is charged.
The minimum service charge for three months of water right now is $131.19, which includes up to 15 cubic meters of water per month; thus 45 cubic meters for those three months.
Since we have been here, our total water usage for the three month periods have been nine, eight and 11, far from the 45 cubic meters we are paying for each period.
How does this encourage people to conserve water? Many would say, if I’m paying for that amount of water, I should use more.
I understand that families would certainly use more water than households of two. Perhaps Epcor should change their method of billing.
