Water cost contributes to landscaping die-off

Heavy water bill the reality for homeowner whose plants are dying off

Re: Summer heat taking its toll on landscaping (Homefinder, Aug. 14)

The article says homeowners don’t realize we’re not in extreme watering restrictions. But it’s not “watering misconceptions” that is taking the toll on landscaping.

My July water bill, despite letting most of my mature shrubs, hedges and flower beds die as well as giving up on watering my lawns, was half of what I budget for gasoline. Wrap your head around that.

Watering restrictions don’t play a part in the death of most of my landscaping. I simply can’t afford to water it – so I won’t be replacing it. Many homeowners are in the same boat.
