It is high time the Department of Fisheries and Oceans started paying attention to the quotas allowable for shellfish harvesters.
We live in an area of French Creek that is very popular for harvesting. Every time the tide is low in the summer, carloads of people arrive with buckets, shovels and coolers and dig for clams and geoducks. Soon there will be nothing left.
Limits on these species need to be reduced. Regulations are in place to protect various other forms of wildlife. What about the shellfish?
