Dear editor,
I have so enjoyed the run up to the upcoming election in Comox and the variety of platforms and opinions.
Please allow me my two cents worth because I don’t think it has been covered clearly.
In regards to water meters I am adamantly opposed and let me explain why.
My family simply cannot afford another expense. We are taxed to the max running our one vehicle, paying our mortgage and feeding our three children. We are in a recession and everyone has their hand out.
We all know that we live in a rainforest and that there is no shortage of water. Even if we put in water meters, the water delivery system itself will still exceed capacity eventually and that is the real problem. Then we will be faced with millions of dollars to run another pipe from Comox Lake.
Wouldn’t the money for water meters have been better spent on upgrading the delivery system? If you want to penalize people for using water excessively, why not create a full-time job and hire an enforcement officer and hand out fines?
My vote will be based solely on this issue. Please do not force something on the people of this community that they do not need nor want, especially in these tough economic times.
Steve Porter,
Comox
