When will Langley taxpayers demand more from the development game?
Look at all the density squashed onto Willoughby hill. How many are happy with the result? Traffic, schools and parking are just some of the issues that are not working out.
Willoughby makes it clear that the game in Langley is heavily stacked in favor of the developers. The citizens who pay taxes are left holding the bag. In return for more density we are not getting enough parks and other community assets. In fact, few realize that Development Cost Charges do not pay the full cost of development so you and I are subsidizing this mess.
The Latimer plan presented at the open house on Oct. 5 offers more of the same. More density, not enough back for the community.
If Brookswood is opened up for development things promise to be even worse. Recently council approved a bizarre scheme to allow developers to pay consultants to design Brookswood neighbourhood plans. Does anyone really think this will work out well for the community?
Other communities are demanding more from developers. Why is the Township not doing the same?
