I slept in last week and missed this season’s snowfall. They had been giving us emergency weather alerts for three days straight that snow was coming too – darn.
I don’t think they ever get very much accumulation on the valley bottoms here, but we are surrounded by mountain passes and with the economy the way it is there are bound to be lots of cars trying to get around without good tires whenever we do get a skiff of the white stuff.
So the alerts are a good heads up – of course, going outside and looking down at the ground is also a reliable indicator.

My computer mouse was giving me trouble the other morning. It just wasn’t working right and what movement there was, was jerky at best. One of those unintended consequence things. The cause of my problem was short little hairs that were blocking the red laser light on the bottom. I have now learned to brush myself off after I use the beard trimmer.

I’ve been binging on Netflix for the last few days. The binge this time around is the prison series Orange is the New Black. One of my favourite lines in the movie so far is when one inmate is explaining the Internet to an elderly inmate who has been in the slammer since before the etch-a-sketch was invented.
After listening, the old woman asks, “So all the information is in wires, but people are still stupid, right?”
That line pretty much sums things up from my point of view down here. One explanation for Trump winning the election was laid out in an editorial cartoon I saw last summer. A mother is standing in front of her daughter explaining what happened. The mother tells her child, “Well dear, you have to understand we were pretty distracted that year. 2016 was the year colouring books for adults came out.”
The latest news on the presidential election is that current vice-president Joe Bidden is leading in early polling for the Democrats in 2020. That’s right, the pundits have already started talking about the next one. In the meantime though, we are waiting for another shoe to drop, and one has the feeling there are still many shoes out there.

I am reading lots of book these days. I finally got caught up with technology and can now check e-reader and audio books out from the library.
There are pros and cons with these things. The cost is free, but you have to keep your batteries charged. You also have to pace yourself and read fast enough to finish by the due date, because there is no keeping the library book for an extra few days and paying a pittance of a fine – when it is due it just disappears from all of your devices.

I hope everyone is doing well through the holidays. It’s a time of year that comes at us fast and continually; setting us up for that breakdown we’ve been putting off for the past few years. A quote by Freud might come in handy here, “Before you diagnose yourself with depression or low self-esteem, first make sure you are not, in fact, surrounded by assholes.”
I’ll take this early opportunity to wish all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from our house in the south to yours in the north. Time for me to put the Netflix binge on hold for a bit and watch It’s a Wonderful Life.

Take care of someone who loves you ….
