Editor: On Friday, my vehicle along with two others, had holes drilled into the gas tanks to steal our gas. Our trucks were parked along 208 Street in Walnut Grove, and this vandalism happened in the early hours of the morning.
Given the amount of time that had been devoted to draining three gas tanks through small holes, I find it hard to believe no one saw anything, on a major street.
We live in a community. It may not feel like it sometimes, but we are all connected and are in this world together. This crime affects us all.
Just think about it for a minute. While I bear the inconvenience and financial cost, we all pay for the police and fire truck that responded. Vehicle owners pay through ICBC rates and when gas or diesel leaks into the storm drains, we pay an environmental cost.
You pay taxes to provide the services to keep our community clean, secure and safe. We need to take a more active role to help keep those costs down. When this happens too often, more police are needed, more cleanup is needed, and more insurance payouts are needed and our costs go up.
We all need to take an active role in our community’s security and safety. If you see something, say something. Don’t make it easy for the criminals to operate.
When good people do nothing, they only enable the criminal behaviour.
