Dear editor,
Re: March 26 editorial “City of Courtenay on a Roll.”
The Courtenay council has done some good things for which your kudos are deserved.
The facade improvement program and the state of the environment report efforts could also include covering the present steel Fifth Street Bridge with wood.
The organizations and volunteers that generously offered to build a separate bridge just downstream would be able to use the old Fifth Street Bridge as a superstructure. The cover would preserve the steel as well.
A covered vehicle, bicycle and foot bridge would be an attraction at that end of Fifth, which is sorely needed. It would connect downtown to the great park and recreation area across the river.
