Whole CRD board should vote

Letters

I do not understand why Regional Director Mike Hicks should feel betrayed because the whole Capital Regional District (CRD) Board has an interest in voting on issues in the resource lands.

These resource lands have fewer than 160 residents in over half of the land mass of the CRD. The resource lands contain the watershed protection area for the Victoria water supply, resource extraction and forestry affecting all of the South Island, a provincial and a national Park that are of concern to all citizens of the province and they serve as recreation wilderness for all of the South Island.

Metchosin and the urban communities of Sooke, Langford and Colwood have no more standing in these lands as any of the other greater Victoria communities.

It seems quite right that the CRD board, elected officials of all the affected communities, should vote on resource lands issues as they have in the past.
