Winds of change need to remove some council members

Concerns over various issues have been raised in many parts of Langley Township in past three years.

Editor: It’s time for new brooms to sweep out the present council.

My family settled in Langley Township in 1970, 43 years ago. We started volunteering here in our community and have been very involved ever since. I believe this gives us some license to make some of our thoughts known.

In the last three years, the current council has given us cause to feel disbelief, disappointment, concern for the future, frustration and incredulity.  We do not stand alone. Similar expressions have been voiced by many residents. There have been issues in Brookswood-Fernridge, Willoughby, Fort Langley, Aldergrove and Glen Valley.

It seems that all the problems have been caused as a result of a council mainly interested in and backed by development. Of all the members of the present counci,l only David Davis has stood out as one listening to the community and caring for the future environment.

The process of public hearings has become a sham and a farce.  They are held to portray a respect for the community’s opinions. but in actuality show a deep erosion of the basic tenets of the democratic process.  Decisions made at these hearings in my experience show no opportunity for cross-examination and thereby ignore even minimal standards of accountability.

The winds of change should now reach hurricane force and remove the present council. One of its members has been in office for 24 years.

“Carpe Diem”. Seize the day and vote for change.
