In the running world there is a concept known as gun time, which means all the runners start on the line and the one first across the finish line wins the race.
The rest of the participants can win in different categories i.e. best in age group and in some cases the rest of us can get participants’ ribbons or medals, but not always.
I am not sure what the politicians want. I kind of see the candidates as the elite runners, they are screened via party nomination processes and selected to represent their party and run in the race. Those who run are vying for a seat in parliament; it makes sense the first one to the finish line wins.
The rest could win best in age group or maybe a participant’s ribbon.
Using some convoluted system that picks candidates who did not win to represent some constituents somewhere where they were not elected just does not make any sense to me. I think that winner takes it all works as well as any system. It is clear, we all understand it.
I mean, after all, you saw what happened in the U.S. with a system where the electoral college system picked Mr. Trump.
Do we really want that here?
