To the Editor:
“And to man He said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; And to depart from evil is understanding.’ “ (Job 28:28)
“But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy.” (James 3:17)
It has been said that Solomon was the wisest person to walk the face of the earth, and I agree, as you may know much of the teaching in the bible about wisdom are penned from King Solomon. Even Socrates, with all his wisdom and knowledge, was just quoting scripture.
A few years ago in Geneva, Switzerland, governments all over the world spent billions of dollars to create an “atom basher”. The scientists were excited, and the media world spent millions of dollars to bring the news of this manmade marvel to the world. The people who stole the money to fund it and the scientists were once and for all going to prove to the world that we came from cosmic dust millions — I mean billions, or trillions, of years ago. Nothing happened and, of course, you, the unsuspecting taxpaying public, didn’t think to ask, “How did this thing get funded?”
Well, they are back in the news, not repenting of their past sins, but to announce that they found something. So did they find the “God Particle”, a Higgs boson? What the heck is a Higgs boson? Something so small and needing to be created by some manmade equipment that was found with a manmade microscope in some manmade lab with manmade money.
With all this knowledge, you would think someone somewhere would be saying, “Stop the insanity.” (Whatever happened to Susan Powter, anyway?) The amount that is funded to projects like this one or NASA or to other scientific projects around the world is insanity, and there is absolutely no reason for it than to show the world who God or lack of God is. True wisdom and knowledge and understanding come from following God’s ways, not trying to prove his non-existence. Like Proverbs 19:2 says, “Also it is not good for a soul to be without knowledge, and he sins who hastens with his feet.” In today’s terms, “Knowledge without understanding is not good for a man (or person).”
So I conclude by saying I don’t think we should seek understanding of how we got here, I think we should marvel at why we’re here, and ask for the wisdom to know where we are going after all this.
