Ken “Heavy Hands” Huber won his second pro cruiserweight fight at the Rumble in the Rink Two in Nanaimo on May 13.

His opponent, Mike “Dynamite” Dowsett from Ladner, smack-talked Huber prior to the fight by calling him “Heavy Feet Huber.”

However, Huber wasn’t discouraged by the insults and didn’t play into Dowsett’s game.

Everybody wants to be a tough guy. I prefer to take the high road. You can talk all you want, but in the end, my work ethic will do the talking for me.”

Huber came out strong in the first round of the fight as he showed great speed and precision, landing several good hits in the first minute and knocking Dowsett down twice.

In the second round, Dowsett improved on his defence but continued to take punches from Huber. Even though Huber was knocked down once by Dowsett, he came back with relentless energy and didn’t let up on his opponent.

In the third round, Dowsett landed some heavy strikes on Huber, but exhaustion began to set in as his strikes became sluggish and were missing their mark. As Dowsett tried to come in low, Huber landed a thunderous right uppercut on his opponent, knocking Dowsett out.

I came in strong and hit hard. I let my hands do the talking.”

Huber now has a 2-0 record in the Professional Boxing Council of Canada pro league with his first fight against Clay Dumais ending in the third round with a technical knockout victory.

This has helped reaffirm Huber’s choice to continue his boxing career. He had a successful amateur career with 27 wins, seven losses and one knockout victory and had considered retiring before going pro.

Huber is preparing for his next fight on June 18 in Saskatoon.
