54 ladies turned out for Christmas golf scramble celebration

The four person Christmas in July scramble has become one of our most popular Fun events. Spirits were high as the ladies scattered throughout the course for a 5:30 a.m. shotgun start. And no, we don’t use a shotgun! The weather cooperated, although Mother Nature flexed her muscles with 15 or 20 minutes of rain. To compensate she did toss in a beautiful double rainbow. After finishing nine holes we were all treated to traditional turkey dinner on the patio. The Chinook Cove kitchen crew did a fantastic job of looking after us. Pumpkin tarts with REAL whipped cream fresh from the Stirling kitchen completed the meal. Personally, I spent the entire week before dreaming in anticipation and I wasn’t disappointed.

Deb Rainer organized a great game revolving around Christmas Carols and all the teams had fun checking out the clues on the tee boxes. I thought this was a much more difficult game than in previous years so was surprised that a number of the teams got most of the answers correct. The team of Marion Wallace, Stefani Bernard, Sherry Hugh and Sharon Spooner won first place for the game.

The team with the highest score was my group (Leslie Stirling, Teresa Stirling, Angie Fowler and Julia Wissink). The team of Barb Smith, Susan Newberry, Deb Winiski and Jen Findlay had a very close second highest score. It was a family affair and although we didn’t get a fantastic score we had wonderful time with laughter and a few Happy Gilmour swings. As far as the good golfing went the team of Deb Rainer, Angie Rainer, Donna Salle, Mel Freestone, Sunny Lebourdais and Sandy Lebourdais won with a blistering 34. The team of Deb Legaree, Trudy Scarlett, Pat Carr and Christina LeCerf were close with a 35. Bragging rights to least number of putts went to Judy Davis, Marilyn Salle, Helen Fraser and Lois Keller. Hazel Cross, Betty Baillie, Irene Beeton and Terra Stebner won prize bags for their wonderful hats. (I guess hats are a big thing with us).

Individual prizes went to Marian Wallace, Chris LeCerf, Donna Salle, Julia Wissink (congratulations to my grand-daughter), Sandy Lebourdais, Carol Hindle, Caley (I never did find out your last name), Eva Keller, Susan Newberry, Sherry Hughf, Deb Legaree, Trudy Scarlett, Susan Bonder, Helen Fraser, Deb Winiski, Emma Allen and Sonny Lebourdais. A third of the ladies golfing won prizes for driving their ball into the gully from the sevent tee. No one left empty handed. We arrived back at the clubhouse for supper, the tables were decorated and small gift bags were at every place. Thanks to Debbie Rainer for organizing our golf nights and prize shopping.

Regular golf next week but don’t forget “Cancer Fund Raising Night” is on Aug. 23, another four person scramble fun night with a 5:30 a.m. shotgun start. Book your spot early.
