The Comox Legion Men’s Open darts tournament was one long day, taking 10 hours to complete.
Participants from Quadra Island, Powell River, Campbell River and Duncan along with Valley locals played a full round robin consisting of 19 pairs, with the top eight advancing to a best-of-three knockout round.
In first spot were locals Bill Durant and Terry Jackson (Courtenay), second place went to Ernie (Mr. 19) Linden and Hap Hanson (Comox). In third were Richard and Len Yarja (Campbell River) with Powell River’s Randy Pilgrim and Jon Salas securing fourth place.
High checkout of 142 went to Larry Adams (Courtenay). High score of 140 went to seven different players.
The singles event had 28 players competing. A modified round robin was played with four sheets of seven. The top 16 went to a best-of-three knockout.
The final was the best-of-five between Ernie (Mr. 19) Linden and Doug Meldrum (Duncan), with Ernie prevailing. Third place went to Keith Wilson (Quadra) and fourth to Glen Litchfield (Courtenay).
“Congratulations to all the winners and many thanks to all participants for making this a successful shoot,” an event spokesperson said.
Next up for a number of participants is the BC/Yukon Legion Provincial Darts Championships in Sicamous.
Next up at the Comox Legion is their seventh annual Memorial Darts Shoot, an open event (teams of four; male, female or coed) set for Saturday, April 20.
Check in is 9:30 a.m. and toe line 10 a.m. Entry fee is $40 per team with total payout. The event is limited to 20 teams.
