The Peninsula Panthers are on equal footing with their round two rivals, the Saanich Braves, heading into Friday’s third game of the junior B semifinals after downing Saanich 5-2 last night (March 7).

The Panthers and Braves faced off in Game 2 of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League playoff semifinals at Pearkes arena in Saanich.

Though it took some time for the scoring to start, once it did, it was an all-Panthers show for the first two frames.

Tyler Porteous notched the first Peninsula goal with a powerplay point with just under four minutes left in the first period.

A quartet of scorers – Jake Bryan, Joe Densmore (both powerplay goals), Josh Bloomenthal and David Stephens – amassed a decent lead for the Cats in the second.

Despite a pair of goals in the third the Braves couldn’t come back.

The battle comes to the Peninsula Friday, March 9 at Panorama Recreation Centre for Game 3.

Game 4 is Monday, March 12, also at Panorama. Both games start at 7:30 p.m.

Game 5 returns to Saanich on Wednesday, March 14.
