A local RCMP officer travels to New York City to represent himself, and the country.

Const. Trevor Mack takes a shot at the 2011 World Police and Fire Games Competition in New York City. Mack brings home two silvers and one gold medal in the air rifle competitions.

The Northcoast Nightmares flat track roller derby team finds a permanent place to roost as a hanger at the Northwest Regional airport is offered up by Hawkair. The team had previously been practicing at the Terrace Curling rink, leaving it without a winter home.

Local Arm wrestler Allan Heinricks once again proves his power on the national stage, earning gold in the Grand Masters category at the Canadian Nationals in Ottawa.

Terrace hockey player Kenny Nordstrom makes the final roster for Prince George’s Cariboo Cougars major midget team.

Terrace’s Hayden Evans journeys to the Isle of Man as the youngest member of Canada’s rugby team for the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games.

It is one win and a loss for the Terrace River Kings, during the Central Interior Hockey League’s (CIHL) Northern Cup Challenge exhibition games, held in Kitimat.

Terrace’s Chapen Leblond is chosen to lead the Manitoba Winkler Flyers as the newly-appointed captain for the team’s 2011/2012 season.

There are 24 participants in this year’s bicycle biathlon at the Terrace Rod and Gun Club, in an event where competitors cycle and shoot to give people a taste of biathlon.

Local students and badminton enthusiasts get an opportunity to learn from a pro.

Anna Rice, who is a former Olympic, Commonwealth, Pan American and Canada Winter Games competitor, visits northern communities as a part of an 11-day B.C. badminton road show.

Terrace’s Kenny Nordstrom goes first in round one of the inaugural  15-year-old draft for the B.C. Hockey League.

It is the Prince George Spruce Kings who have the first pick.

It is sunny skies and mild weather for runners lacing up for the Skeena Valley Runners Club’s 31st annual All Seasons Fall Run Oct. 2.

The overall winner in the 21km half marathon for the third year in a row is Terrace’s Mike Christensen with a time of 1:20:42.

There is a new face heading up the Terrace Curling Club this season, as Burga Anderson takes the reins as president.

A local sports writer and self-proclaimed hockey fanatic releases his third novel, this time in the form of an internet book, or e-book.

Written in the first person perspective, Pucks On The Net is the title of this new book, which is a collection of stories from hockey history, including sections on hockey heroes, international ice, crashing the crease and personal stories from the author Joe Pelletier himself.

The Terrace Bluebacks hit the pool for their first swim meet of the season, taking fourth place at the Prince Rupert Rapids’ October invitational.

It is a second place finish for the Terrace peewee reps at the first-ever Cliff Sharples Memorial tournament.

Eight teams from across the north meet to play rep hockey in a tournament that is special to Terrace and the Terrace Minor Hockey Association (TMHA) because it is the first of its kind in decades.

Four members of the Terrace Skate Club travel to Prince George to take part in the Williston Inter-club Competition, Oct. 21- 23.

Jorden Hendry, Julia Bowles, Emma Decario and Jesse Thandi all took part in the competition, which coach Rayven Algor said was a strong showing for the club.

Two Terrace athletes find their way to university provincial gold on the soccer field – for the second year running.

Jared Stephens and Daniel Young-Mercer help the Vancouver Island University (VIU) Mariners defend their title in Kelowna, winning the 2011 Pacwest Provincial championships.
