Oceanside’s AA Mosquito Reds sure had the bats working hard last weekend, as they went 3-1 and outscored the opposition by a whopping 60-34 in rep ball action.

At home on Saturday for a double header against the AAA Ladysmtih Cardinals, the Reds came up on the short end of a 17-11 final in game one, then bounced back with a big 24-9 romp in game two.

According to head coach Andy Macdonald, Ryan Palm and Brandon Nicoll, who crushed a two-run homer over left center, led the Reds at the plate, while Brandon Snyder, Jaxon Ackerman and Nolan Macdonald all turned in strong pitching performances.

Brandon was on the mound in the fifth inning and showed lightning quick reflexes and good hands when he stretched out for a diving catch on a shallow popup with runners on base to obtain the third out.

“That was so awesome,” he said through a big smile upon his return to the dugout amidst a forest of high fives from his coaches and teammates. “It was like Star Wars in slow motion.”

Back at it in Ladysmith for another double header on Sunday, the Reds swept the hometown Cannons by scores of 13-11 and 6-3.

It was, said Andy,  “A great effort from the entire team,” adding that highlights from Ladysmith included Brandon Nicoll’s game one blast over the left field fence and Jaxon Ackerman’s no hitter through the five full innings he pitched.

The three wins ups the Reds’ record to 6-1-1 in its exhibition season leading up to the Vancouver Island Championships (Zone Tournament) which is slated to be held at Springwood Old on July 28 and 29.
