Abbotsford’s Owen Forfellow is now the property of the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
The Yale Lions bantam prep defender was the highest Abbotsford native taken in the Western Hockey League’s 2017 Bantam Draft, which occurred on Thursday.
He was chosen in the fourth round, 73rd overall by the Alberta team.
Forfellow recorded six points in 28 regular season games with the Lions this season.
The Hurricanes finished second in the WHL’s Central Division, and were eliminated in the third round of the playoffs by the Regina Pats.
The only other local taken was Michael Milne, who was selected in the eighth round, 155th overall by the Kootenay Ice.
Milne, a left winger with the Yale bantam prep team, scored 26 points in 30 regular season games for the Lions this season.
The Ice failed to make the playoffs and were the worst team in the WHL last season.
As in previous years, several other Yale products were selected in the draft.
Those chosen include: Langley’s Aiden De La Gorgendiere (fifth overall to Saskatoon), Maple Ridge’s Tyson Phare (18th overall to Prince George), Chilliwack’s Ethan Bowen (39th overall to Kelowna), Langley’s Dylan Anderson (75th overall to Everett), Surrey’s Cameron MacDonald (96th overall to Brandon) and Langley’s Brody Gagno (113th overall to Prince George).
The Vancouver Giants top pick was Surrey’s Justin Sourdif, who they chose with the third overall pick.
