It’s Christmas time for the Abbotsford BMX club, and club organizers are making the final race of 2015 a special one.
Bikers hit the indoor track at the Agrifair arena starting at 5:30 p.m., and running until late. Admission to check out the races is free, and riders of all ages are battling in both pro amateur and class races.
Along with the action on the track there will be lots going on off the track. For a non-perishable food donation, riders will receive $2 off their regular registration fee for racing.
Local photographer Tony Lyons will also be on site taking photos of riders with their bikes and guest BMXer “Santa Claus.” The club will be asking for a $2 donation, along with a non-perishable food item for the pictures.
A special fundraiser draw for items donated by businesses and parents is also going on.
All proceeds from these sales will be donated to the Abbotsford Food Bank. To date, some of the donations include: prize packs from Fuggles and Warlock Craftworks, hairstyling by Kate Trefry, coaching by Iron Joe Athletics, and gift certificates from Fingers to Toes.
This weekend is the last chance to watch or participate until the track is rebuilt in January. New riders are always welcome, and loaner bikes and safety gear are available for first-time riders.
Indoor races typically run on Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Open practices run Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
