Alaska Aces celebrate their advance to the ECHL Kelly Cup finals over the Salmon Kings.

Over is the Victoria Salmon Kings’ season. Over, is the Salmon Kings’ magical post season run. And over, is the Salmon Kings’ time in Victoria.

And it came at the hands of ex-Salmon Kings Scott Howes and Wes Goldie on Monday night. (Well, that and the decision of owners RG Properties to bring in the WHL.)

Howes scored a heartbreaking game winner to lift the Alaska Aces over Victoria 3-2 on Monday night with 25 seconds left in the third period.

In the postseason this year, the Aces’ tandem were the death of the Kings. Along with line mate Brian Swanson, Victoria had no answer for the trio who helped Alaska sweep Victoria out of the ECHL Western conference finals in four straight games.

The irony is, Victoria could have had both of them.

More to come.
