The Acme Timbermen soundly beat their biggest rivals in the last real regular-season test.
The Nanaimo Acme Painting Timbermen doubled the Ladner Pioneers 10-5 on Sunday in West Coast Senior Lacrosse Association action at Frank Crane Arena.
“We started really strong and kept going,” said Steve Higgs, T-men forward. “We’ve had some pretty close games against them this season and that was the best one so it’s nice to finish on that note.”
Coach Mike Maughan agreed it was one of his team’s best games of the year. That’s big for the T-men considering they were coming off a loss to the Valley Rebels last weekend.
“We wanted to look at it as a way to hit the reset button,” Maughan said. “This game tonight was a big one for us for tons of reasons, whether it be [securing] home floor, or against a tough opponent, and getting back on the winning track.”
The win assures the Timbermen (13-2-1) of a first-round playoff bye.
Higgs, Devon Casey and Shane Chalker had two goals each and Cody Keating, Jon Diplock, Ryan Forslund and Ryan Clark also scored. Nick Patterson only needed to make 22 saves for the win.
GAME ON … The Acme T-men visit the North Shore Indians on Friday (July 11) and the Port Moody Thunder on Saturday.
