The first round of the Men’s Club championship was held at Alberni Golf Course last Sunday.
Preben Rasmussen and Fred Fredrickson are leading the field, coming in with 78. Then came Ted Stewart and Cory Nielson carding 80, then Mike Savard and Brian Tall both shooting 81 and Chris Owen and Jacques Giovetti both with 85.
In the net competition, first place went to Cal Davies recording a smooth 64, followed by Vic Carlton coming in with 65, next was Masami Hiriyama, Cliff O’Laney, Wayne Johnstone, all with 66, then came Ned Stewart with 70 and rounding out the field with a 71 was Steve White.
The closest to the pin winners were Bill Bjornson on No. 2, Ned Stewart took home $30 for the Charity on No. 4, Glen Trask on No.13 and Dan Barker on No.17.
This weekend will be the second round of the club championship, with tee times starting at 8 am. The net competition starts with a shotgun start at 8:30 am.
The Mid-Island Seniors of Alberni Golf Club hosted 64 golfers in a senior’s tournament on, July 7. The winners for Flight A ( age group 50-70 ) were: Low Gross- score of 75 Preben Rasmussen of Alberni
Low Net- Score of 66 Wayne Johnstone of Alberni
Second Low Gross- Score 77 Bob Middleton of Nanaimo
Second Low Net- Score 69 Bob Alexander of Fairwinds
The winners for Flight B( age 71 Plus) were:

Low Net- Score 68 Ron Pratt of Comox
Second Low gross- 80 Karl Cameron of Glacier Greens
