Air attack leads the way as Raiders blow out Huskers

Nanaimo's V.I. Raiders beat Valley Huskers 47-16 in Chilliwack

The V.I. Raiders travelled to the Fraser Valley and once they got there, they took to the air.

Nanaimo’s B.C. Football Conference team defeated the host Valley Huskers 47-16 on Sunday in Chilliwack on the strength of six passing touchdowns.

With Raiders quarterback Jake Laberge returning from injury, he and fellow QB Cole McGarvey both saw time behind centre Sunday. Laberge finished 8-for-13 passing for 180 yards and four touchdowns, while McGarvey was 7-for-9 passing for 151 yards and two TDs. Neither QB threw a pick.

North Rainey caught seven passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns, while Mike West and Alex Bonnetplume also made two TD receptions each.

Defensively, Gevhahn McNally-Hardisty, Andre Gordon and Tyler Hill each had an interception. Nathan Cayouette led the Raiders with six tackles and Zach Taylor had five. Matt Hill and Doyle Westlund had sacks and Nils Haeni blocked a kick.

GAME ON … The Raiders take on the first-place Langley Rams this Saturday, Sept. 14, at 2 p.m. at Caledonia Park.
