Alberni Golf: Mother’s Day win for father

What's up with who and where in the Alberni Valley golf scene.

Fifty-three men showed up to play in the Alberni Auto Group two man best ball at the Alberni Golf Club on Mother’s Day. Sorry about that, all you lovely ladies.

The gross winner, which is no surprise was the father and son team of Sam and Brett Parhar. Second low gross went to Vito Caldarulo and Fred Fredrickson, with the final gross prize going to Preban Rasmussen and Dennis Debolt.

On the net side of the day, this is no surprise either: Livio Tedesco and Steve Acland were the winners. Second low net was won by Cory Nielson and Darrell Van Os. Third spot went to Don McGowan and Trevor Cripps, fourth was won by Sandy Duguid and Jerry Swaney, fifth low net went to Bob Matlock and Gary Korven, sixth went to Vic Carlton and Jacques Giovetti, seventh place went to Jim Rhodes and Ron Barker and eighth to Don Dowling and Kevin Carlton.

The closest to the  pin winners were Bret Parhar on No. 2. The charity closest to the pin winner on No. 4 was Steve Acland who took home $35 for his effort. Second shot on No. 6 was Jim Lawler, Jacques Giovetti on No. 13 and Sam Parhar on No. 17.

Cory Nelson had the long drive on No. 5 and took home a gift certificate thanks to the generosity of the Westwind Pub.

But the really big winner of the day was Al Wright, who won the hidden hole on No. 1. Wright collected $376.

The first Stableford Tournament of the season is in the book as of last Monday, with Frank Sheare, Preban Rasmussen and Masami Hirayama all compiling 38 points.

Next was Jim Petersen and Jacques Giovetti with 37 points followed by Livio Tedesco with 36. Winning sleeves of balls for closest to the pin were Livio Tedesco on No. 2 and  Frank Sheare on No. 17.

There were several draws for sleeves of balls: winners were Ted Williams, Bruce Browne, Bill Barrett, Sharon Hillman,  Anne Brookes and Cliff O’laney. Also winners of $30 were Bob Price, Ron Clark, Doug Richmond and Barry Bowman.

Next Sunday is an open day with the optional Eliminator game, This is a four-man team event, so register in your own group with tee times starting at 7 a.m.
