Aldergrove Bruins advance to Midget Final Four championship

Aldergrove Midget A1 Bruins sealed their place in the Final Four with a 3-2 win over Semiahmoo A2-T2 Tuesday night at South Surrey Arena.

Aldergrove Midget A1 Bruins sealed their place in the Final Four with a 3-2 win over Semiahmoo A2-T2 Tuesday night at South Surrey Arena.

It was their second consecutive win over Semiahmoo, providing Aldergrove with the necessary four points in the third round to advance to round four. Aldergrove defeated Semi 7-6 last Thursday at Aldergrove Arena.

Scoring for the Bruins were Brodie Buchner, Jordan Desrosiers and Tanner Myer, with one each in each period. Semiahmoo scored one in each of the first two periods but were held scoreless in the third.

Aldergrove’s assists came from Jake De Waal, Logan Favel, and Dawsen Stone. Kallum Dierkhising made 16 saves for the Bruins in the net.

“Excellent job against Semi, fighting through a tough game and keeping our composure,” said coach Carlo Calfa. “Good team effort.”

The Bruins move on to the Final Four, a single round robin series, hosted by Aldergroove Bruins at Aldergrove Arena from Friday, February 26 to March 2.

The top two teams from the Final Four then move on to the BC Hockey Midget Tier 2 Championships, being held in Prince George on March 14 to 18.

Scheduled games so far are:

• Feb. 26: Aldergrove Bruins vs. Coquitlam A2 or Mission A1 (team to be decided), 9:15 p.m. at Aldergrove Arena;

• Feb. 27: NSWC A2 vs Port Moody A1, 7:30 p.m. at Aldergrove Arena;

• Feb. 28: NSWC A2 vs Coquitlam A2 or Mission A1 (team to be decided), 7:15 p.m.at Aldergrove Arena;

• Feb. 29: Aldergrove Bruins vs. Port Moody A1, 9:30 p.m. at Aldergrove Arena.

Game format for all Final Four games is 15 minutes, 15 minutes, ice clean, 20 minutes.

The Aldergrove Bruins, with a 37-10-3 season record, won 12 of their last 14 regular season games and are ranked number one in the league.
