The Aldergrove Kodiaks skated to a 9-3 victory over the Langley Knights, Feb. 4 at George Preston Arena.
The result puts the Kodiaks solidly in third place in the Harold Brittain conference with 47 points in 42 games (22-17-1-2). The Kodiaks are destined to meet arch-rivals, Abbotsford Pilots, in the first round of playoffs this month, while the top team Mission Outlaws will meet the Ridge Meadows Flames. The Langley Knights are eliminated from playoffs action this season.
The Kodiaks opened the scoring late in the first period with a power play goal by Davin Padgham, assisted by Eric Callegari and Cameron Davitt. The Knights responded a minute later to tie it at 1-1 in the first period.
Davitt scored early in the second, unassisted, and the Knights responded less than a minute later to even it up. However, the Kodiaks scored four more that period to take a 6-2 lead in the second. Scoring that period for the Kodiaks were Callegari (from Brandon Dolby and Spencer Unger), Davitt (from Nathan Washington and Derian White), Unger (from Padgham and Callegari) and Ivan Vilcauskus (from Lucas Stratford and Elijah Vilio).
The Kodiaks scored three more in a row in the third before the Knights scored their last goal, for the 9-3 outcome. Scoring for Aldergrove were Matt Oliver (from Kyle Bosko), Davitt (from Padgham) and White (from Davitt and Washington).
The Kodiaks outshot the Knights 61-31 and first and third stars were Kodiaks Davitt and Callegari.
The Kodiaks final regular season games are Tuesday, Feb. 9 at Delta Ice Hawks and home on Wednesday, Feb. 10 versus the Richmond Sockeyes.
