The Aldergrove Kodiaks pulled out all the stops for a 6-4 win over the Abbotsford Pilots, Feb. 14 at Aldergrove Arena, for a 2-0 lead in the PIJHL second-round best-of-seven series.
The Pilots outshot the Kodiaks 60-51 but failed to score on any of six power plays, while the Kodiaks netted goals on five of seven.
Kodiaks keeper Ross Baadsvik earned the game’s first starĀ for his outstanding work, while Colton Precourt and Thomas Hardy got the second and third stars for their productive night.
The Kodiaks scored the only two goals of the first on power plays by Spencer McHaffie (from Hardy and Precourt) and Robert Jang (from cHaffie and Hardy).
The Pilots netted two in the second, while the Kodiaks scored two more on power plays by Alex Feighan (from Precourt and Brandon Potomak) and Hardy (from Potomak and Precourt).
The Pilots scored twice again in the third, as did the Kodiaks on a final power play by Scott McHaffie (from Hardy and Precourt) and the clincher by Matthew Luongo (from Potomak and Jang) closed the scoring for the 6-4 win.
The Kodiaks now move to MSA Arena for Friday and Saturday tilts. The series returns to Aldergrove on Sunday, MSA on Monday and Aldergrove on Tuesday (if needed).
