The Aldergrove Kodiaks are bound for the provincial junior B hockey championships next week in Creston, after defeating Delta Ice Hawks 3-2 in the final Pacific Junior Hockey League championship series Tuesday night.

It was a hard-fought double overtime victory over the Delta Ice Hawks in game six of what will be remembered as a fantastic series.

Cameron Davitt blasted home the series winner at 12:12 of the second overtime period to give the Kodiaks the third championship of their nine year history.

It took a complete team effort to defeat a stubborn Ice Hawks team which had battled back from a 3-0 series deficit and got to within a goal of forcing the championship to a seventh game.

Elijah Vilio and Eric Callegari each had a goal for Aldergrove while Cameron Cuthbert and Alex Methorst replied for Delta.

The game was tied 2-2 at the midway point of the second period before going scoreless for over 50 minutes until the winning tally.

Both goaltenders were outstanding. Kodiak Dawson Rodin collected his 12th victory of the playoffs with a 45 save effort and Jordan Naylor turned aside 51 shots for the Ice Hawks.

The Kodiaks will now enjoy a well deserved break while they wait to see who they will face at the Cyclone Taylor Cup beginning on April 6 in Creston. The provincials will see the Kodiaks, the Creston hosts, and teams to be determined from the Vancouver Island and Kootenay junior hockey leagues, play for the Cyclone Taylor Cup.
