Members of the Surrey Gymnastics Society (SGS) had success at a pair of recent competitions.
At the Omega Invitational last weekend in Coquitlam, a pair of SGS girls earned all around medals.
Maria Bashko, 10, won an all around silver medal in the Provincial 2 Argo (10-and-under) group. She also won gold on floor and bronze on beam and added a sixth place score on vault.
Teammate Chenay Wong, nine, won a bronze on bars and was sixth on beam to place sixth all around.
In the Provincial 2 Tyro category for 11-12 year-olds, Sarah Tobin won the all around bronze medal. The 12 year-old placed second on beam, third on floor and sixth on bars. Eva Woodward was seventh on bars and beam and Cassandra Principe was sixth on beam.
Alexa Cannon, 12, was eighth all around in the Provincial 3 Tyro group, Cannon, 12, was fourth on beam and sixth on floor.
In mid-January, four SGS girls were at the Club Aviva Winterfest, also in Coquitlam.
Bashko just missed an all around medal, placing four in the Provincial 2 Argo group. She won a gold medal on floor and a silver on beam, while Wong was fourth on bars and seventh all around.
In the Provincial 2 Tyro category, Principe won a gold medal on bars and placed seventh all around, while teammate Nicole Czerniakowski won a silver medal on bars and added a fourth on beam to place ninth all around.
SGS has one of its members on the Zone 3 (Fraser Valley) team at the B.C. Winter Games Feb. 20-23 in Mission. Alon Zvikler, 13, earned the final position on the four-man team with a fourth place finish in the all around standings at the Zone 3 trials meet in December. Zvikler had the top score on parallel bars, was third on rings, fourth on floor and fifth on high bar.
