Gone Fishin’: Local fly fishing guru Courtney Ogilvie was in his happy place this week, working his line down at the green bridge pool.

Courtney Ogilvie was in his happy place when The News drove by this week, standing on the rocks fly fishing Little Qualicum River at ‘good old green bridge pool’ next to Riverside Resort.

“Look at that,” he beamed out of the blue as the sun broke through a patch of clouds and bathed the popular fishing hole in a warm afternoon light. “There’s lots of fish in there … pink salmon, some chinook …”

For those following along at home, September 1 marks the end of gear fishing season and the start of fly fishing, which runs through to Nov. 30.

A longstanding member of the BC Federation of Fly Fishers, longtime mentor, and the man behind Bowser’s Nile Creek Fly Shop, Courtney, 63, who has fished waters the world over, said “its been a fabulous year for fishing locally.”

“Excellent, just excellent for sea-run cut throat trout, pink salmon and chinook.”
